Alternatives

The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Portal Bridge Capacity Enhancement Project will examine a number of “Build” alternatives, as well as a NEPA-required “No Action” alternative. The Build alternatives will include a number of options -- and variations within each option -- to improve the aging bridge. Alternatives will evaluate modification or rehabilitation of the existing bridge (including raising the existing structure’s height) along with the construction of an entirely new bridge with varying proposed heights, operation type (moveable/fixed) and number of tracks.
