EIS OVERVIEW
Amtrak and NJ
TRANSIT are proposing to enhance the capacity and improve the operation
of the Portal Bridge, a rail crossing over the Hackensack River in New Jersey
between the cities of Kearny and Secaucus.
The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed Portal Bridge Capacity Enhancement Project will evaluate the environmental, social and economic impacts of reasonable and feasible project alternatives for the Portal Bridge.

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will serve as a cooperating agency, contributing special expertise and ensuring that the EIS is prepared in compliance with its environmental requirements.

The EIS process includes numerous opportunities for public involvement, especially as the project team begins to develop alternatives for improving the Portal Bridge.
