The Portal Bridge  is a 100-year-old rail bridge that is a vital part of the Northeast Corridor system. The Portal Bridge Capacity Enhancement project, led by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), in cooperation with Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT, will evaluate alternatives to improve the existing Portal Bridge in order to better serve the region's current and future transportation needs.
